Mastering Your Marketing Strategy

We have had  a few clients tell us that they set up a Facebook page, WordPress blog or a Twitter account but they haven’t done anything with it.  They are still wondering about how to use social media for their business and claim they either don’t have the time, patience or know-how to manage it all. Dipping your toe into social media, even with the best intentions like this can actually do more harm than good.

There has been a lot of talk and advice about building a social media strategy with measurable goals, relevant messages, customer engagement, etc. Many companies have learned to use social media for research and to step up their service and build better products. All of that is very important, but if you are really looking to master your marketing strategy, it is important to understand that what any form of marketing should do is to persuade a customer to do what you want them to do whether that be buy your new eco-friendly laundry detergent, superior hair care products or next season’s couture collection.

Everything your marketing agency or promotions department strives to do, should be about educating, enlightening and inspiring your customers to recommend your products and services or make an actual purchase.

    I hear this one often from [potential] clients. And I think you are on the money with this one. I believe educating the client, and building a strategy around giving the client all the tools to manage their on-line community is one of the key to a successful SM campaign.

    The myth of social media being the miracle marketing strategy is also something I come across often. Having a Facebook page, Twitter account or blog will not drastically increase your bottom line in itself. It will take dedication. And some [daily/weekly] work, keeping in mind that you want your brand to shine.

  4. Thanks for reading. Yes, I agree. Many clients think that social media is the end-all solution to customer acquisition, retention and montezation. Certainly social media helps build brand buzz, but an integrated campaign is what really works.
