So how do you create your personal brand in the time of Covid-19?
The fastest way is to build a reputation as a thought leader and you can do that easily by creating videos of you sharing your knowledge.
Think video first.
Video is the future of the web. Soon everything you consume and create on the web will be video. Your website, your blog, your social media. Video is king. Words are still important, but video is where it’s at. When you are creating content – think video first.
I know. The mere idea of creating a YouTube channel or going live on Facebook might make you cringe. It might even terrify you.
Let’s face it, unless you are an actor or a performer, chances are you hate the idea. You might even be petrified of getting behind the camera.
But if you can, you must.
So where do you begin? You begin by deciding how you want to portray yourself and then through trial and error and by studying the masters and the competition you begin.
You begin by understanding what makes a great video post. A post that puts you and your expertise in the lead and in the limelight.
A Check List for Success
When you are creating your first series of videos, ask yourself these questions –
Is it useful? valuable? helpful? Does it offer a solution to a common problem?
- Are you sharing a fascinating story?
Do a few practice runs.
- Sound check (no background noise please)
- Lighting check (can I see you clearly?)
Create a unique look for yourself. If you are in front of the camera, make sure you are putting your best face forward.
Are you speaking confidently, clearly? Remember, you want to hold attention and keep them from swiping up.
So how do you get courageous about sharing your knowledge in front of a camera? How do you get over the self-judgement?
Get over the insecure mind chatter. . .
I look fat. I look old.
I speak too fast, too slow.
It takes practice people. Hours and hours of practice. Oh, and feedback. Feedback from those who aren’t afraid to tell you to go back and practice some more.
Sure it takes time, but right now, you have all the time in the world.
Why not give it a go? You have years of experience in your field. You have value to bring to the world. Knowledge. You have the opportunity to take what you know and build industry authority and credibility.
Now is the time to share it and scale it, as you reach thousands, if not millions of people around the world.
People who need your expertise.
