instagram

Out of all the social media platforms right now, I am finding Instagram to be the most engaging and rewarding. Yesterday I had a group of holistic nutritionists invite me to their Instagram group, yes we are creating our own community, and they have inspired me with the healthiest recipes for plant-based food – delicious meals as healing medicine for the body. If we haven’t connected on Instagram yet, please say hello @MadelineMarieJohnson I’d love to learn more about what you are up to.

Helpful Hashtags & Consistent Content

Two of the strategies that I find work best include using #hashtags within the 100,000 and 800,000 range. For someone like me this includes #healthandwellness which at the time of this post is at 562,451 and #digitalmarketing 951,149.

The second strategy is posting at least four times a day. I am paying attention to Instagram Insights (I have a business page) and find that around 3:00 pm is the golden hour for engagement and likes.

LinkedIn ProFinder Best of Badge

The team at Linkedin emailed me a badge of honor yesterday. According to the marketing team at Linkedin, the Best of 2016 badge signals a best in class ranking on their platform and spotlights the services I provide on ProFinder.

I am creating The PR Playbook, a two hour online course, to help startups and small brands  cut through the clutter of repetitive, abundant and confusing marketing advice, while helping them to understand and execute only the most productive and critical marketing tactics and activities to build upon success.

This course is unique in that it is an intelligently-designed mash up of marketing strategy, timely tactics and and technology to help you grow faster.

business, Customer Acquisition, marketing muscle, Uncatergorized

Spying on competitors and copying their best practices is a growth hacking and marketing secret to finding your next clients or customers. This tip really applies to all businesses, so anyone can really benefit.

Stealing from your competitors is nothing new. That’s how Airbnb built their business off Craig’s List. Read here for the back story.  It was pure, unadulterated hustle.

Growth hacker Vincent Dignan recommends a site like SimiliarWeb but I really like the list below. Spy on your competition with these tools.

1. SEMrush (super powerful, highly recommended)

2. ahrefs.com

Have you found a way to dig deep into your competitor’s best practices? If so, comment below.

Networking Your Way to the Top

Brand Awareness, brand reputation, building brand trust, growth hacking, How do do your own PR, How to Do Your Own PR, public speaking, Uncatergorized
The best way to grow your business is to build brand awareness to create word-of-mouth demand. Everyone I interview and I myself have found public speaking and networking at events to be an extremely effective way to attract new customers and clients. The larger the group and the more focused on your niche, the better.
Vincent Dignan, a UK-based growth hacking pro offers up his way to speed up the scheduling of your next series of public talks.
This quick video clip cuts right to the chase.
  1. Search sites like Meetup and Eventbrite for events with a larger number of members in your niche.
  2. Ask to join the groups and then contact the leader or group admin with this –
Hi there,
I am a (expert, pro, guru) at (your specialty) and I would love the opportunity to share my (top ten – fill in name of talk) at your next meet up. I have a huge network that I will invite as well.
Let’s connect,
Sincerely, you
  1. Cut and past that message into an email for each and every Meet up you target and cross your fingers for replies.
Now, he also makes a good point. About 5% (I say even less) of the attendees will actually buy something from you. However, focus on making your presentation entertaining and informative so you increase the chances of attendees telling their friends about you.

How to Find Anyone’s Email

Email Marketing, growth hacking, How do do your own PR, Internet Marketing, Marketing Technology, online marketing, Uncatergorized

I just got off a marketing strategy consult call with a business owner looking to gather emails for her new campaign. Her list right now is small and she wants to build it so she can sell her new online course and book.

Looking to gather emails for your next email drip campaign?

In this short video, growth hacking pro Vincent Dignan offers up a number of tech tools to find emails faster, including Discover.ly, a chrome extension because cold emails are good, but warm emails are ten times better. Discover.ly will show you all of the Facebook and LinkedIn connections you have in common, making that first introduction a bit easier.

MailTester.com will test your emails to make sure they don’t bounce.

CharlieApp will help you prepare for your next meeting. Type in anyone’s email address and you will find all of their public information as you get ready for your next meeting. You will quickly connect to their latest blog posts, new LinkedIn Updates and more.

Of course there’s email hunter, just type in any domain and find email address templates in seconds.

Need help with your email strategy? Next marketing campaign? I am available for consultation. Email me at m.johnson@themarketcouncil.com

Email Marketing 40x More Effective Than Social

Communications, Email Marketing, growth hacking, Marketing in the Moment, Marketing Technology, Uncatergorized

Email marketing is so underrated and has received a bad rap for being spam and junk mail just waiting to be deleted in your customer/client’s mailboxes.

Businesses and brands that get email right know better. Growth hackers like Vincent Dignan, creator of the Secret Sauce know even more.  Email marketing isn’t dead, it’s just been abused by marketers that aren’t creating thoughtful email campaigns that are useful and helpful.

In less than two minutes, we will explain why email is still your best marketing bet and how to run an effective campaign.

As a new business, brand or startup, you will increase your chances of proper top-tier media coverage and future collaborations with popular influencers by creating a 24/7 digital newsroom on your website.

What should you have ready for writers and producers to download?

  • Your brand story video.
  • A fact sheet about your startup.
  • High resolution head shot and brief bio of the founder and team members.
  • Photos of your products/services along with brief descriptions of each. Be sure to include, price, size, availability and the actual launch date.
  • A vector file of your logo and your brand map.

How to Reach Out to Influencers Like a Pro

collaborations, Influencer marketing, Uncatergorized
Summary
You increase your chances of collaborating with others when you make it easy to work with you. You remove the major barrier of time loss aversion from the equation. You’ve basically created the content you want to share with the influencer. All they need to do is “weigh in” and add their point of view.
Advice
  1. Make it easy to share stories, be interviewed, get your product reviewed or work on a creative collaboration. You want the influencer to know you are professionally prepared.
  2. Being professional and prepared helps overcome the barrier of loss aversion on the influencers part. He/She may be concerned that they won’t have the time to collaborate, so take that anxiety away. You do the prep work.
  3. If you have an aversion to selling yourself, then don’t sell. Educate, enlighten and inspire others. No need to come in hot and hard. Chill out and create useful and helpful content for your collaborators, influencers and customers
Your Collaboration Checklist
  1. Be ready to serve up your fresh idea for a collaboration with everything you need to get the story done.
  2. Make sure your bio is interesting to read and your photo is fresh.
  3. Review high res photos and crisp video content. Make sure it is good to go.
  4. You have done all the legwork.  You have the facts, research and studies to back it up.
  5. You’ve included the state of the market, the background story, the players in your pitch.
  6. Finally make sure it’s easy to contact you to get moving on the story now.
